Responsibilities
- Serve as the Relief Valve Technical Authority, providing expert pressure relief engineering support across downstream sites.
- Lead the development and maintenance of training and technical assurance programs for pressure relief sizing and downstream systems.
- Evaluate and approve API 520/521 and flare system design exceptions, overseeing the exception‑approval process at each site.
- Participate, on an as-needed basis, in HAZOPs, flare risk assessments, and investigations to support safe and reliable operations.
- Standardize and guide the creation of technical documentation for pressure relief and flare disposal systems.
- Collaborate regularly with operations, maintenance, inspection, and other SMEs to ensure consistent technical practices
Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in the US
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Working knowledge of pressure relief device sizing, selection, and disposal systems; experience with relief system calculations
- Good working knowledge of process simulation tools such as PetroSim, HYSYS, PRO‑II, or Aspen Flare Analyzer, AFT Fathom, etc.
- Understanding of core process engineering deliverables (PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, hydraulic calculations, overpressure scenarios).
- Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., API 520/521, API RP 576) with willingness to deepen expertise.
- Experience with front‑end project development and equipment design.
- Strong technical communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
