About the role
We are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Legal Counsel to provide high-quality legal support across our Global Forwarding business , with a primary focus on the Asia region. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel - Global Forwarding , you will partner closely with business leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to manage legal risk, support commercial objectives, and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate governance requirements. Responsibilities
- Legal Advisory & Commercial Support
- Provide timely, practical, and commercially focused legal advice to the Global Forwarding business across Asia and other regions as required.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements in line with company policies and risk frameworks.
- Deliver jurisdiction-specific and general legal guidance to business stakeholders and management.
- Partner closely with operational and commercial teams to understand business requirements and provide effective legal solutions.
- Dispute Resolution & Litigation Management
- Manage and resolve claims, disputes, and legal matters involving customers, suppliers, and other external stakeholders.
- Support the management and progression of litigation matters across the Global Forwarding business, including:
- Coordinating with external counsel;
- Assessing legal risks and settlement options;
- Recommending resolution strategies; and
- Preparing regular case updates and reports for senior leadership.
- Corporate Governance & Compliance
- Support the maintenance of corporate governance and regulatory compliance frameworks in collaboration with the Corporate Secretary and Legal leadership team.
- Ensure governance policies, procedures, and controls are implemented and adhered to across relevant jurisdictions.
- Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory developments affecting the transport, logistics, and forwarding industry.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Training
- Develop and deliver legal training programs covering topics such as:
- Contract negotiation;
- Claims management;
- Legal risk management;
- Competition and anti-corruption laws; and
- Other key compliance obligations.
- Educate and guide management teams on company policies, legal obligations, and emerging regulatory requirements.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve legal processes, workflows, and operational efficiencies.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and strategic projects as required.
- Support workload sharing and collaboration within the Global Forwarding Legal team.
Requirements
- Essential
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent).
- Admitted Legal Practitioner with a valid practising certificate.
- 1-3 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) , either in private practice or in-house.
- Proven experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on commercial contracts.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluency in English and Mandarin , both written and spoken.
- Highly Desirable
- Experience in transport, logistics, freight forwarding, warehousing, international trade, or supply chain industries.
- Knowledge of carriage of goods and international transportation frameworks across ocean, air, rail, and road freight.
- Experience supporting major corporate customers and complex commercial arrangements.
- Experience working in multinational organizations and across multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated experience participating in or leading commercial negotiations.
- Education
- Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent).
- Additional qualifications in Commerce, Finance, Business, or relevant postgraduate legal studies will be highly regarded.
