Position Purpose: Reporting to the Manager of t he Louise McEntyre West Nursing Simulation and Peer Mentorship Centre , the instructor develops, oversees, and facilitates learning experiences in the context of nursing laboratories and simulations. The incumbent collaborates with course professors and clinical instructors on nursing theory and clinical techniques to be taught in labs, as well as develop and modify simulation scenarios to meet curricular requirements. The instructor also collaborates with course professors and other partners to support research-informed practices in labs. To achieve a pedagogically sound environment for complex learning to occur, this Registered Nurse, who has experience in both nursing practice and education, collaborates with other support staff in providing an effective learning environment, which includes student teaching, supervision, debriefing following lab and simulation activities, as well as evaluation of student performance. This is a full-time contract or temporary assignment for one (1) year. In this role, your responsibilities will include, among others: Instructional activities: Supervises, instructs, teaches, supports, and assesses (evaluation) nursing students during lab and simulation sessions to ensure student success in the nursing program for a maximum of six (6) credits of clinical laboratory course content per academic year. All instructional activities are based on up-to-date policies, protocols, and relevant literature. These instructional activities also include supporting interprofessional and/or research activities for training purposes. Participates in other co-curricular activities within the School (may include student-staff certification requirements). Educational development: Consults with faculty and team members to develop and establish learning objectives for simulation scenarios and lab teaching content. Develops, creates and updates skill and simulation-based activities (low, medium or high-fidelity nursing specific and interprofessional simulation scenarios), using up-to-date simulation concepts and techniques, in consultation with course professors and curriculum committee. Develops ad hoc technical and/or simulation-based remediation sessions for students who wish to practice or who are not meeting course objectives. Ensures that lab content reflects curricular requirements in nursing and promotes progressive development of psychomotor, communication, and critical thinking skills. Coordination of laboratory experiences: In collaboration with the lab Manager and the lab Coordinator, coordinates the delivery of activities related to the labs for which she/he is responsible. In collaboration with course professors and Lab Manager, determines how simulation experiences and skills labs are scheduled throughout the term, ensuring timely integration into each course. Collaborates with course professors to integrate simulations and skills labs into courses and ensures effective use of labs to achieve learning outcomes of the course. Coordinates and works with the lab technician to identify and plan for the appropriate supplies and equipment for the labs they are responsible for. Provides direction, as well as collaborates with teaching assistants to ensure that lab activities and content meet course requirements (ex: lab remediation and make-up sessions, correction of lab evaluations).
