Contract and temporary employees are not eligible for consideration. The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (NCAOC) provides centralized administration and budgeting services for the state's courts in all 100 counties. The Human Resources (HR) Division provides professional services and programs to all Judicial Branch hiring authorities, officials, and employees. NCAOC is seeking a proactive Safety and Workers' Compensation Consultant to drive our workplace safety initiatives and streamline our workers' compensation and claims management. This dual role will lead workplace hazard assessments, facilitate OSHA compliance, and administer the end-to-end workers' compensation claims process. If you are a skilled communicator who can bridge the gap between employee well-being and risk reduction, you will be a vital addition to our team. Your primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Safety and Compliance : Conduct regular comprehensive safety inspections of county courthouses and Judicial Branch facilities to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor risks/hazards to strengthen and ensure compliance with state and federal safety regulations. Incident Management : Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes, recommend corrective actions, and prevent future occurrences. Worker's Compensation Administration : Manage the full lifecycle of workplace injuries. Serve as the liaison between the employer, injured employee, and the third-party claims administrator (TPA). Coordinate workers' compensation claims by preparing cases for mediation and attending hearings. Ensure program and policies are compliant with the North Carolina General Statute 97 (Workers' Compensation Act of North Carolina). Reports Management and Regulatory Compliance : Track and report safety and health data to identify trends and areas of improvement. Analyze and produce statistical reports related to accidents, safety and claims, and OSHA reports. Drills and Emergencies : Coordinate and schedule security/multi-hazard drills for NC Judicial Center (NCJC) and statewide judicial offices. Evaluate risks and develop security matters for the NC Judicial Center (NCJC) in conjunction with NCAOC executive management and NC State Capital Police. Assist the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) leader with coordination of procedures to ensure essential functions continue during a wide range of emergencies. Training and Education : Develop and implement safety training programs to meet specific needs of NC Judicial Center and field offices for mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery from natural or manmade disasters. Deliver in-person and virtual safety presentations for all staff levels. Professional Partnerships : Establish and maintain cooperative relations with all stakeholders including county officials and administrators. Serve as the NCJC Safe Leader, member of the Emergency Alert Team, and Chairperson of the Safety Committee. Other safety and health related duties assigned by HR Manager. This position reports to the HR Manager and work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: state and federal safety and health standards as applied to an office environment and safe work habits; Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) guidelines and practices; Judicial Branch Workers' Compensation Program and the North Carolina Workers' Compensation Law
