Intro to Position Content Services & Content Production Technology Development Internship Come learn what it's like to work on cutting edge technologies for file and content delivery at NPR. The Content Services and Content Production Technology provide critical backend API support for user experiences in NPR's owned and operated platforms ( npr.org , NPR App) as well as third party vendors (Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music). We also engage with Network Tools that support local and regional newscasts and podcast content as well as curation and discovery of Member Station content. This role will be responsible for writing Typescript code to refactor our local and regional newscast audio delivery pipeline. Applicants will learn about Typescript best practices, observability, CI/CD and how our teams work rolls up to the overall mission at NPR. The first half of this internship will be on the Content Services team where the focus will be on our backend APIs for content delivery and discovery. The second half of the internship will be in the Content Production Technology division where the focus will be on our APIs and tools for multimedia production at NPR.
Responsibilities
- Attend Agile scrum meetings and ceremonies
- Write code (Typescript)
- Tag and release code using our CI/CD process
- Give and receive feedback through Github Pull Requests
- Respond as needed to production emergencies and "disruptable" internal NPR team asks
- Attend knowledge sharing sessions where you will learn more about the bigger picture for our key content pipelines

- Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of Node and Typescript
- Use Github either professionally or in personal coding
- Familiarity with common software development lifecycle elements (Build, Test, Deploy)
- Familiarity with AWS or similar cloud infrastructure tools and resources
- Knowledge of REST API concepts (e.g. Stateless-ness, Layered System)
Requirements
- Coding experience with C#
- Building out infrastructure as code using Terraform
- Familiarity with AI and LLM code productivity tools such as Gemini, Copilot
- Direct experience using Docker for application development and local testing
- AWS Elastic Container Service (ECS) framework experience in application development (Services, Tasks, Scheduled Tasks, etc)
- AWS API Gateway and Lambda stack experience in application development
