The Senior Revenue Accountant is an experienced, highly skilled contributor on the Finance team with a core focus on revenue accounting, billing operations, and compliance in a SaaS environment. This individual brings a strong understanding of ASC 606 and subscription-based revenue recognition, operates with a high degree of independence, and contributes to the development of processes and best practices. In addition to managing their own workload, this person serves as a resource and informal coach across the billing and accounting functions, helping drive quality, consistency, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee revenue recognition processes in compliance with ASC 606, ensuring accuracy across subscription-based contracts and related billing activity
  • Review and approve Sales Orders in NetSuite, ensuring alignment with contract terms and proper revenue treatment. Leverage NetSuite for billing operations, revenue arrangements, saved searches, and reporting
  • Oversee the reconciliation of the monthly MRR report and Revenue Forecast, ensuring all accounts are reconciled accurately, discrepancies are resolved proactively, and results are communicated to stakeholders
  • Manage the billing terminations process in NetSuite and Salesforce, including timely processing of contract terminations and applicable credit memos
  • Assist with implementing solutions to recurring billing challenges, including testing and validating system modifications or upgrades
  • Handle escalated billing inquiries, disputes, and account management correspondence
  • Support period-end close activities to ensure all billing and revenue is complete and accounted for, in coordination with the Billing Manager
  • Assist in team training and serve as a subject matter expert for Billing Specialists on processes, systems, and escalated questions
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of billing and revenue procedures, and identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Support year-end audit requests and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Accounts Receivable team on billing-related collection items and customer account reconciliation as needed
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and revenue related accruals.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects as requested by the management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA required
  • Experience in a SaaS or subscription-based software company with a strong understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition requirements
  • Experience with subscription billing
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities and drive tasks to completion with minimal direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and develop less experienced team members, serving as a knowledge resource and contributing to overall team growth.
  • Minimum of 3 years of public accounting experience.
  • NetSuite and Salesforce experience
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort leveraging AI tools to drive efficiency in accounting and billing workflows
