Job Description: The Retail Advice & Solutions (RA&S) Expense Management team is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to enable effective management decision-making, working collaboratively with our business partners in Retail Advice & Solutions, other Canadian Business Units and Canadian and Corporate Finance. The Intermediate Financial Analyst, a key member of the RA&S Expense Management team, will be responsible for preparing monthly/quarterly journal entries, the completion of monthly/quarterly expense and gain/gap reporting including variance analysis, participating in the expense planning/forecast process, coordinating the annual budget, providing ad-hoc expense related analysis, and supporting the associated financial analysis. Reporting to the Director, Expense Management and working closely with all members of the RA&S Expense Management team, this position requires a proactive, self-motivated and detail oriented individual with excellent analytical, technical and prioritization skills. It is also important for this individual to work closely with partners across the RA&S organization, as well as, other key business units (eg. Canadian Finance, Canadian Operations, Client Experience Office (CXO), Agile Portfolio Management (APM), etc). What will you do ? Preparation of month end journal entries and account reconciliations ensuring accuracy and completeness Prepare monthly/quarterly views of expense, unit cost (gain/gap) and other key measures including variance analysis and commentary Perform monthly financial analysis of select Retail Advice & Solutions areas Participate in the expense and unit cost plan and budget processes, including loading inputs and analyzing results for accuracy and completeness Analyze unit costs and understand key drivers of these unit costs Analyze key drivers of costs including strategic initiatives and provide input to business decisions Develop relationships with key business partners with the goal of understanding the underlying business model Participate in, and assist with, the explanation of results of expense studies as needed Develop ad hoc financial reports from business requirements as supplied Support ad hoc expense projects as required What do you need to succeed? CPA designation or enrolled in accounting designation program (CPA) Strong analytical and problem solving skills with attention to accuracy and details Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to explain complex concepts to audiences of different levels of understanding Proven flexibility, adaptability, and creativity to meet deadlines and manage priorities Strong ability to manage multiple deliverables while driving desired results Proven ability to build and maintain successful relationships with business partners Excellent PC skills (MS Excel, Oracle, SAP, Essbase/Hyperion, Tableau) including experience in building reports Highly motivated with the ability to consistently seek out improvements to current processes Work independently with minimal supervision Assets: Knowledge of IFRS 17 Knowledge of Insurance services and products and related market segments Expense and planning experience Notes/Unique Requirements: Overtime will be required during peak periods (month-end, quarter-end, plan and budget) What's in it for you?
