Includes rendering emergency medical assistance or general first aid. Enforces university policies and procedures and criminal law. May be assigned to vehicle, bike or foot patrol. Must be prepared to deal with a variety of complex and ever-changing situations (crisis intervention, apprehension of criminal suspects, serious injuries, et al), make quick decisions, and take action. Needs to be able to utilize a variety of tools and techniques to resolve situations and accurately and thoroughly record information for the official University record. Performs all duties of a Response Officer II, as outlined above, and serves as an informal leader and mentor. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Responds to or reacts to emergency and non-emergency incidents (medical, law enforcement, injury/accident, et al) on campus. When not on assignment, patrols the University properties. Takes action or makes a note for follow-up on any safety and security issues. Provides Emergency Management support during large-scale incidents. Receives/compiles information for incident reports and conducts initial and follow-up investigations, as assigned. May be seconded to the investigations section for special assignments. Provides necessary follow-up (transports to medical facility, notifies proper authorities and undertakes any other necessary coordination) for faculty, staff, students and visitors after immediate resolution of an incident. Apprehends criminal suspects for on-view or reported criminal activity. May serve as a Field Training Officer or instructor. Fulfills informal leadership duties in the absence of supervisors and managers. Conducts building checks, checking access control devices, door locks, and proactively looking for any possible safety or security hazard. Uses problem-solving skills to resolve issues found during building checks. Assist Medical Center personnel and visitors with directions and provides escorts when requested. Partners with customers in assigned geographical areas and assists them in resolving multi-department issues. Takes possession of found property, attempting to locate the owner, and securing property according to established procedure. Enforces parking regulations and provides support to the Transportation Office as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
