Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Liberty Program Director)

About the role

This position is the Manager of the Recreation Program of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department at Norfolk Naval Station, Norfolk VA. The primary objective of this position is to manage and supervise a Recreation Center, Single Sailor and Liberty Program. A qualified candidate must possess: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of recreation such as would be gained through a four year degree in recreation and/or through documented broad and comprehensive experience in the field of recreation and in the practical application of such knowledge to on-going recreation programming. Knowledge of the goals, philosophy, principles, techniques and methods of procedures used in organizing, planning, administering, conducting and managing a wide variety of recreation programs and facilities and the skill in the application and utilization of such knowledge in planning and carrying out an enhanced program which meets as fully as possible the needs of the participating community. Skill in the effective management of the financial and physical resources of the programs or services. Excellent written and oral communication skills that enable effective communications with high-ranking military and civilian personnel as well as subordinate personnel and the public. A high degree of judgement, tack and integrity is required to maintain effective working relationships with all levels and ranks.Ability to read, interpret and implement policies and procedures established by higher authority and tact and diplomacy in presenting same to staff and patrons.
