Responsibilities
- Own and develop system-level FMEA / FMECA frameworks across vehicle design, AIT, and operations
- Define and drive a coherent system failure tolerance strategy, balancing redundancy, complexity, and performance
- Lead risk identification, quantification, and mitigation planning across the full product lifecycle
- Build structured failure analysis methodologies (fault trees, root cause analysis, etc.) and apply them to real test/flight data
- Translate reliability insights into clear design and architecture recommendations across avionics and system subsystems
- Evaluate trade-offs between reliability, cost, and performance, enabling informed engineering decision-making
- Ensure all credible failure modes are identified, assessed, and mitigated to acceptable risk levels
- Support and lead failure investigations from test campaigns, feeding learnings directly back into design
- Collaborate cross-functionally with GNC, hardware, software, and integration teams to ensure holistic system reliability
- Drive design-for-reliability principles early in the development cycle to avoid over- or under-engineering
- Establish best-in-class RAMS practices suitable for high-performance, mission-critical aerospace systems
- Continuously iterate based on real-world data to improve system robustness and long-term viability
Requirements
- An experienced Reliability / Safety / RAMS Engineer with a track record of working on real, deployed systems
- Strong experience in FMEA / FMECA development and system-level risk modelling
- Hands-on experience in failure investigation in real-world environments (test, flight, launch, or in-service systems)
- Proven ability to balance reliability vs complexity trade-offs in engineering design
- Experience applying structured problem-solving methods (e.g. fault trees, fishbone diagrams, root cause analysis)
- Background in aerospace, defence, or other highly complex system environments
- Experience in roles such as quality, reliability, test, certification, V&V, or design engineering
- Strong systems thinking - you can evaluate risk holistically rather than optimising locally
- Ability to influence design decisions across disciplines with clarity and engineering rigour
- Comfortable operating with incomplete data, ambiguity, and tight constraints
- You've worked on systems where failure has real-world consequences, not just theoretical models
- You take ownership of complex problems and drive them through to resolution

Additional Information
Help Build Europe's Hypersonic Capability At Hypersonica, we're redefining what's possible in European defence technology. We exist to deliver speed, resilience, and technological independence at a pace that sets a new standard. We are a small, elite team working on problems that matter, and solving them fast. By joining Hypersonica, you're not stepping into a predefined role. You're joining a talent dense environment where every individual shapes the direction of the company. Our philosophy is to hire a small number of exceptional people with broad, deep technical capability, strong judgement, and the ability to operate autonomously. We hire for talent, not rigid boxes. This role represents a business need, but the way it evolves will be shaped by the individual. If you've achieved what others said was impossible, or you bring a unique combination of skills that doesn't fit a traditional mould, we want to hear from you. The work you do here directly contributes to Europe's technological independence.
