Position description The McGill University Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Rheumatology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time clinician-scientist position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The Montreal Children's Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of McGill's major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada's internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH. The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology is a clinically strong group that offers the full range of rheumatology care to children and adolescents. With the addition of a new member, there will be 5 full time and 2 part-time members with academic strengths in multiple fields including medical education, research, advocacy, and health services delivery. The division is supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes administrative assistants, specialized nursing staff, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and psychology. The Division has an active, fully accredited Royal College Pediatric Rheumatology residency program, one of only 3 in Canada and the sole program in Quebec. As a clinician-scientist, the successful candidate will become a member of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), joining one of the eight active research programs at the RI-MUHC. Fundamental scientists are affiliated with the Centre for Translational Biology, while clinical scientists are affiliated with the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation. Clinician-scientists are expected to commit 50%-75% of their time to research. Job Duties The successful candidate will be actively involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Department of Pediatrics, Division of Rheumatology at the Montreal Children's Hospital (MCH), McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). All rheumatologists are required to contribute to on-call duties. Clinician-scientists are expected to cover approximately 6 weeks of service per year and hold a minimum of one half-day out-patient clinic every week. The incumbent will be expected to participate in all clinical and administrative division meetings. Supervision of undergraduate and graduate trainees and participation in the pediatric rheumatology subspecialty training program is expected. Physicians in the Division of Rheumatology are also expected to contribute to our interdisciplinary education mission, supporting the education and professional development of nurses and nurse practitioners as well. As a clinician-scientist, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to independently initiate, conduct, and manage a research program. They will be required to present an outline of their planned research program and needs for start-up funding. Clinician-scientists are expected to apply for salary support from the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS) and to eventually obtain external operating grants for their research. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill's academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Qualifications and Education Requirements Candidates must: Hold an MD degree (or equivalent); Hold, or be eligible for, licensure to practice medicine from the Collège des médecins du Québec; Have postgraduate clinical training in pediatrics, and have completed specialty training in Pediatric Rheumatology with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent); Have completed at least two years of research traini
