This is a skilled and technical level operations position. Under the direction of Building Maintenance Management, the Electrician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of school facilities by maintaining and repairing essential electrical equipment and control systems. This position is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repairs of power outlets, light fixtures, lighting controls, motors/starters for various building equipment, public address systems, scoreboards, and other low-voltage systems across all school sites. Assignments are carried out in accordance with accepted electrical trade standards and applicable codes and regulations. Work is reviewed periodically on a project basis. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is not exempt from overtime.

Requirements

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Education:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the electrical trade.

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or trade ‑ related technical coursework.
  • Previous experience with lighting control systems, public address systems, or generators.
  • Experience working in an institutional, commercial, or public ‑ sector facilities environment.
  • Possession of journey level electrician license.
  • ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Repairs and maintains electrical distribution systems, branch circuits, power outlets, light fixtures, lighting controls, motors/starters, public address systems and other low-voltage systems within school facilities.
  • Assists senior electricians with complex repairs, installations, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, public address systems, motor/starter systems, low-voltage systems, and control wiring.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs electrical issues including power outages, short circuits, and system malfunctions.
  • Ensures compliance with NEC, NFPA, and state/local electrical codes in all work performed.
  • Employee Safety
  • The employee is responsible for the use of safety devices and protective equipment in order to minimize the frequency and severity of work-related accidents. The employee is responsible for using safe practices and methods in the operation and supplies related to their job.
  • The employee is further responsible for correcting any conditions within the building or grounds that may be hazardous to employees, students, or staff assigned to the building and reporting same to the appropriate administrator.
