Award-winning and people-first, SimplePractice is shaping the future of health tech. Recognized by MedTech Breakthrough, the Digital Health Awards, and BuiltIn's Best Places to Work. SimplePractice is looking for an Assistant Controller to own the core accounting operations of the business - general ledger integrity, month-end close, internal controls, treasury, and cross-functional partnership - at a pivotal moment in the company's growth. As a profitable, PE-backed US federal taxpayer, this is a real-stakes environment where accuracy and disciplined accounting operations directly impact our bottom line and tax position. The right person brings Big 4 roots, deep SaaS/fintech/health-tech operating experience, and a genuine drive to deploy AI and automation to make the team faster and more scalable. Revenue recognition and technical accounting are managed separately, allowing this role to go deep on the accounting infrastructure that underpins the business.

Responsibilities

  • General Ledger & Close
  • Own GL integrity across all legal entities
  • Lead and continuously improve the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycle.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

  • Controls & Reporting
  • Design and maintain a strong internal controls environment.
  • Lead the annual external audit as primary liaison with auditors.
  • Support financial reporting to PE sponsors and lenders, including variance commentary and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure accounting policies are documented and consistently applied.
  • Treasury & Cash Management
  • Oversee daily cash management and liquidity monitoring.
  • Manage banking relationships and account administration.
  • Support cash flow forecasting with FP&A.
  • Ensure compliance with debt covenants related to cash reporting and liquidity thresholds.
  • Accounts Payable, Payroll & Operational Accounting
  • Oversee AP operations, payroll accounting, fixed asset accounting, prepaid tracking, and intercompany accounting across US and international entities including our Mexico subsidiary.
  • Procurement Partnership
  • Collaborate with sourcing and procurement to ensure vendor contracts and spending commitments are properly reviewed, approved, and recorded.
  • Provide accounting guidance on contract structuring, capitalization determinations, and period-end accruals.
  • Support the procure-to-pay cycle and vendor onboarding process.
  • Systems, AI & Process Improvement
  • Serve as functional owner of NetSuite.
  • Partner across the accounting tech stack - FloQast, Numeric, Zip, Brex, Stripe, and Chargebee.
  • Actively identify and deploy AI and automation tools to reduce manual effort and scale capacity. Lead broader process improvement initiatives as the business grows.
  • Team Leadership
  • Manage and develop a team of accountants. Build a culture of continuous improvement and comfort with AI-assisted workflows.
  • Partner closely with FP&A, Tax, People, Legal, and Sourcing. Support special projects including M&A diligence and PE reporting.
  • Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2-3 years at a Big 4 firm
  • Significant experience at a high-growth SaaS, fintech, or health-tech company
  • Deep hands-on NetSuite experience; strong GL ownership background
  • Proven team leadership and external audit experience
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge across fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, payroll, AP, intercompany, and treasury
  • Genuine curiosity about AI and automation in accounting; familiarity with US sales tax
  • Strongly Preferred Experience:
  • Experience at a PE-backed company with sponsor/lender reporting requirements
  • Prior experience at a profitable US taxpaying company with income tax provision involvement
  • Hands-on AI tool deployment within an accounting or finance function
  • Multi-entity and international accounting exposure
  • Experience with FloQast, Numeric, Chargebee, or Stripe
