About the role

The Sleep Service within the Department of Respiratory & Sleep Medicine provides specialised care for adult inpatients and outpatients experiencing a wide range of sleep disorders, including respiratory and non-respiratory sleep conditions. Our multidisciplinary team includes sleep physicians, sleep scientists, sleep registrars, and a clinical sleep psychologist who work collaboratively to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care. An exciting opportunity is available for a qualified Sleep Psychologist Grade 3 to join the Sleep Service at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. In this role, you will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment for patients experiencing insomnia and other sleep-related concerns. A key focus of the position will be the delivery of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and other evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including mindfulness-based interventions. Working closely with the multidisciplinary Sleep Service team, you will contribute to comprehensive patient care while supporting innovation and development within an expanding clinical service. We are seeking a psychologist who is passionate about improving patient outcomes, values collaborative practice, and is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Classification: PL1 - PL4 ($108,279 - $123,905 per annum, pro rata for part time).

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care and Therapeutic Intervention
  • Provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment for adults experiencing insomnia and other sleep disorders.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
  • Utilise additional therapeutic approaches, including mindfulness-based strategies and other appropriate psychological interventions.
  • Develop individualised treatment plans that support patient-centred care and improved sleep outcomes.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding sleep health and behavioural management strategies.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation and outcome measures in accordance with organisational standards.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with Sleep Physicians, Sleep Scientists, Sleep Registrars and other healthcare professionals within the Sleep Service.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and contribute to comprehensive patient management.
  • Provide consultation and specialist psychological advice to members of the Sleep Service and referring clinicians.
  • Service Development and Quality Improvement
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and expansion of the Sleep Psychology service.
  • Support innovation in service delivery models to improve accessibility and patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement, evaluation and research activities where appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and review of clinical resources, pathways and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Your Contribution
  • To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Endorsement in Clinical Psychology or demonstrated experience working within a specialist psychological practice setting.
  • Experience delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with specific experience in CBT-I highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide assessment and treatment for adults experiencing sleep difficulties and related psychological concerns.
  • Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and clinical documentation skills.
  • Current National Criminal History Check, or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience working within sleep medicine, respiratory medicine or other specialist health services.
  • Training and experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
  • Experience delivering mindfulness-based interventions.
  • Experience contributing to service development, program evaluation or research activities.
