About the role
In our Respiratory Therapy department, we are committed to transforming lives through personalized care, cutting-edge techniques, and a patient-centered approach. The Respiratory Therapy Unit consists of 29 employees who provide 24/7 coverage to a patient population that ranges from Adult, Pediatric, and Infant. The unit is home to a Level 3 Neonatal team. Shifts are generally 12 hours. The Respiratory Care Lead is a clinical expert, responsible for oversight of the respiratory care team, ensuring smooth operations and the delivery of high-quality patient to care to all ages, including experience and clinical competence in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, during their assigned shift. The Respiratory Care Lead functions as an integral member of the departments management team providing clinical leadership, staff management, consultation and collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team, utilizing evidence best practice to guide respiratory care.

- Rounds through each area of the hospital monitoring patient conditions, assuring appropriate operation of equipment and providing point of care education.
- Is an expert resource on all respiratory care related equipment and modalities, including high-level, advanced strategies and procedures. Point of contact for all departments regarding any respiratory-related, patient care matters on any given shift.
- Identifies and participates in quality improvement initiatives, utilizing evidenced based practices that provide measurable outcomes.
- Reinforces, monitors, and evaluates quality improvement/research initiatives to enhance delivery of care including but not limited to, collecting data, analyzing results, and assuring staff compliance.
- Respect and Role Modeling
- Serves as the team leader during shifts when assigned to this role and acts as an administrative point of contact when no member of the management team is physically present on site.
- Assists in direct clinical orientation of new staff, students and contracted staff in equipment needs, assessments and evaluations. Identifies and resolves equipment/supply issues. Provides the leadership team with recommendations and/or action plans regarding staffing and workflow issues.
