About the role

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing essential Environmental Services functions throughout the hospital. Primary work will consist of trash/linen removal, biohazard waste removal, floor care, furniture care, surgical room cleaning, and morgue cleaning. All work is completed in a friendly, safe/sanitary way following infection control guidelines, universal precautions and directives from EVS Management Team. Job Description Job Duties Empty and transport non-hazardous patient and office waste in a safe/sanitary way. Empty and transport biohazard patient waste in a safe/sanitary way and to understand proper placement and manifesting of this material. Pick up and dispense sharps containers throughout the hospital in a safe manner. Clean the morgue as needed following universal precautions Clean surgical room following established cleaning practices Operate cleaning equipment including, steamer, carpet extractor, wet vacuum, chariot style floor vacuums and scrubbers. Fill in as a Housekeeper as needed. Complete room cleaning including chair cleaning, cubicle curtain, vents, and lights. Clean up construction projects, window washing, wall washing, and water leaks. Clean up chemical spills within the hospital properly and safely. Operate and remove a cardboard bale from the cardboard baler. Take supplies to the nursing areas from the EVS storeroom as needed. Assist in room/event set ups and teardowns. Check and document hazardous storage area weekly. Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be able to speak, read, and write in fluent English. Basic math skills Computer literacy Must maintain neat appearance and professional image. The ability to use and demonstrate guest relation skills Operates hospital provided communication (Vocera) in a professional manner Adapt to seeing and cleaning blood, body fluids and body waste Hospital supplied scrubs will be worn in certain positions for infection control standards. Professional Experience Prior EVS, housekeeping and/or floor care preferred.
