J.S. Held is seeking a Principal Toxicologist to play a leadership role within our Health Sciences practice, supporting complex litigation, regulatory, and advisory engagements. Job Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop a team of toxicologists across multiple projects and geographies Ensure scientific rigor, quality assurance, and defensibility across all deliverables Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture aligned with J.S. Held's consulting standards Provide oversight and guidance on complex, high-profile engagements Expert Services & Technical Leadership Serve as a consulting and testifying expert in litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters Lead and deliver toxicological risk assessments, exposure assessments, and product safety evaluations Interpret complex toxicological, epidemiological, and exposure data to generate clear, defensible opinions Support mass torts, environmental exposure cases, product liability matters, and occupational health disputes Translate scientific findings into clear, persuasive insights for legal counsel, regulators, and corporate stakeholders Client Development & Revenue Growth (Seller-Doer) Originate, grow, and maintain client relationships across legal, corporate, and regulatory sectors Contribute to and expand a portable book of business, meeting or exceeding revenue targets Lead business development activities, including opportunity identification, scoping, pricing, and proposal development Partner with cross-functional experts (e.g., epidemiology, industrial hygiene, environmental science) to deliver integrated solutions Strategic Initiatives & Practice Building Support the growth and expansion of toxicology services across the U.S. and international markets Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate toxicology into broader disputes, investigations, and compliance offerings Contribute to thought leadership, including publications, conference presentations, and client briefings Represent J.S. Held at industry events, expert forums, and networking opportunities Required PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Environmental Health, or a related discipline ~15+ years of professional experience, including significant time in consulting and leadership roles Demonstrated experience serving as a testifying expert, including preparation of expert reports and participation in depositions and/or trial testimony Deep expertise in toxicological risk assessment, chemical exposure, and human health impact analysis Strong understanding of global regulatory frameworks (e.g., REACH, CLP, EPA, OSHA, and related regimes) Proven seller-doer track record, including business development, client relationship management, and revenue delivery Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific concepts to legal, technical, and executive audiences Preferred Experience supporting U.S. and/or international litigation (e.g., mass torts, class actions, regulatory disputes) Established professional reputation, including publications, expert testimony history, conference participation, or professional society leadership Demonstrated success in launching or expanding service offerings within consulting environments Experience working within multidisciplinary expert teams in a professional services or advisory setting Some of the Benefits We Have Include J.S. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc. In addition to base salary, J.S. Held offers a variety of annual bonus programs. Eligibility and details for these bonus schemes will be discussed during the interview process.
