The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. The Habilitation Instructor is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering structured classes in horticulture, sewing, and carpentry for developmentally disabled offenders. This role supports rehabilitation and skill-building through vocational training and the application of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles to enhance social, behavioral, and independent living skills. The instructor collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to monitor and document individual progress, ensures a safe and organized learning environment, manages program resources and budgets, and contributes to administrative and professional development activities. This position reports to the Psychological Services Coordinator and plays a key role in promoting constructive use of time and preparing individuals for more independent and productive lives. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Pay Range: $35,596 - $62,294 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Responsibilities

• Designs and delivers vocational training in horticulture, sewing, and carpentry for developmentally disabled offenders, using task analysis and adaptive methods.
• Applies cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles and behavior management techniques to support social, emotional, and independent living skill development.
• Evaluates client progress, documents goals and outcomes, and communicates observations effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
• Maintains program equipment, manages budgets, ensures a clean and safe learning environment, and performs related administrative duties.
• Builds rapport with clients, staff, and community partners while promoting workplace readiness and addressing barriers to employment.
