About the role

This position is responsible for the analysis, data processing and reporting of data from the HRMS and GC/MSMS systems. On a daily basis, this person is responsible primarily for the analysis of routine analytical methods, including the assessment, coding, and reporting of analytical data, and instrument maintenance. Specific Responsibilities: Able to analyse samples for routine organic chemistry parameters with input from others; Perform routine maintenance to ensure that assigned HRMS or GC/MSMS instrumentation is in good working order; Data processing, review and reporting (LIMS and Excel) for a variety of instrument methods; Evaluate data and trouble-shoot problems with the data/extraction/analysis; Organize workload to meet Turn around Times (TAT's) and hold times. Must be able to prioritize and multitask as many tests are run daily; Communicate with team lead and direct supervisor regarding workload, as required; Ensure the quality of the analytical data meets ALS standards; Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Carry out all required record-keeping and documentation; Maintain spare instrument parts in good working order; Assist in standard-making for the assigned analytical method; Assist in other analytical sections of the lab as required; Ability to work in a fast paced environment; Maintain a clean and safe work environment; Work in accordance with the established health and safety policies and procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act; Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Well organized, able to prioritize and multitask; Strong attention to detail; Highly motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic; Ability to work in a team; Must be capable of working with minimal supervision; Excellent English communication skills (written & verbal); Intermediate experience with Excel and Microsoft Word; Ability to work to deadlines in a fast paced environment. Required Qualifications: 2 or more year(s) of extensive lab experience, including at least two years operating GC instruments and processing data; Completion of technical diploma or B.Sc. degree in chemistry or related field; Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry for short distances; Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required; Ability to stand or sit for a full shift; You may be exposed to unpleasant odours; Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and weekend shift work including weekends.
