About the role

Under indirect supervision, this position performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor in cleaning and maintenance of City parks and athletic complexes for the Parks and Recreation Park Maintenance Division. Essential Responsibilities Performs general labor tasks to maintain clean, safe, attractive, and friendly park and sport field environment. Maintains Park grounds, park facilities, sport fields, playgrounds, public building/areas, and traffic islands. Performs Park Maintenance duties such as litter route, cleans up trash, debris, and restrooms, low level pruning of trees and shrubs, weed control, mowing, weed eating, watering, head check and repair of irrigation, athletic field prep, field striping, painting, fertilizing, seeding, and tree planting. Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of park assets. Assist with graffiti removal. Assist with special projects as assigned. Assist with setup of special events and park programing. Operates vehicles and equipment (both light and heavy duty) in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures set forth by the City of Amarillo. Performs routine snow and ice removal. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Work Environment The employee works in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others. This position is considered weather essential personnel. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to support departmental operations with consistent and timely attendance. Knowledge of or ability to be trained on the tools, equipment, materials, and methods used for Park and Athletic Field Maintenance. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in undesirable conditions and inclement weather. Licenses/Certification Chemical Applicators License preferred. Irrigation Technician preferred. Certified Welder preferred. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED preferred. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License required.

PAY: $ 13.50 - $18.25 /hour DOQ Hours/Days Will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as necessary by the department, and during inclement weather.
