About the role

As a Nurse II in Therapeutic Apheresis, you'll play a highly specialized and meaningful role in patient care. Responsibilities

  • In this role, you will:
  • Therapeutic Apheresis care:
  • Perform specialized procedures such as stem cell collection, plasma exchange, leukocyte reduction, and photopheresis
  • Provide direct patient care, including IV therapy, medication administration, and blood product transfusions
  • Collect lab samples and monitor patients throughout procedures
  • Deliver care in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, including weekends
  • Donor Center support:
  • Screen and assess donors to ensure eligibility and safety
  • Perform venipuncture and phlebotomy for blood and platelet collection
  • Initiate and monitor donor collection procedures
  • Support donors throughout the donation process to ensure a positive experience
  • Prepare and manage blood products for transport
  • Across both areas:
  • Maintain patient and donor safety at all times
  • Follow all clinical, safety, and regulatory guidelines
  • Set up and maintain specialized equipment
  • Accurately document procedures and care provided

Requirements

  • Critical care, infusion, or procedural care experience
  • Background in hematology, oncology, or outpatient clinical settings
  • Approximately 3 to 5 years of nursing experience

  • Required Education and Experience
  • License Requirement
  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
  • Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time oncology nursing experience; or
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time critical care experience; or
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting; or
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting and completion of Roswell Park nursing orientation with the ability to function independently at a satisfactory level for three (3) months (full-time) as a Nurse I at Roswell Park.
  • NOTES:
  • Incumbents will serve a one (1) year full-time probationary period as a Nurse II.
  • Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
  • The preferred candidate will have previous experience in apheresis or donor center procedures.
