The department is seeking a highly motivated individual to join Jefferson's dynamic, collegiate, and expanding physics team. Job Description The Thomas Jefferson University Medical Physics Division consists of 33 physicists (including a computational physicist and a physics clinician scientist), 7 physics residents, and 5 post-doctoral research fellows. The Medical Physics Division provides clinical physics services at 13 locations across Philadelphia and the surrounding metro regions. System-wide equipment includes Varian and Elekta Linacs, a ViewRay MRI-Linac, an Elekta Gamma Knife, and a CyberKnife. Brachytherapy is carried out using Elekta's brachytherapy studio. Treatment planning is performed mainly with Eclipse and Mosaiq is used as the record and verify system. The department has established a growing Theranostics program with quantitative SPECT/CT for dosimetry calculation using MIM MRT system. Jefferson physics faculty lead a highly impactful and diverse research program. The group currently has on-going multiple funded projects by the National Cancer Institute, vendor funded research, as well as Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center funding. Research topics include computational physics, functional imaging, AI and machine learning, computer vision, multi-lesion SRS, alpha- and beta-particle microdosimetry, and physics-led clinical trials. The group has active collaborations with the Jefferson physician faculty, on-going national and international research projects, and is part of the NCI Quantitative Imaging Network. The candidate will have opportunities to join existing funded projects, develop independent research, and collaborate across the cancer center. Jefferson's Division of Medical Physics has a long-standing history of educating trainees. The department contains a Medical Physics Residency Program and is active in teaching the Medical Physics and Radiation Oncology residents. Positional overview We are recruiting for a Medical Physics Faculty position with clinical responsibilities shared between the Cherry Hill/Washington Township locations (4 physicists) and the Center City Philadelphia campus (13 physicists) location. This structure provides the opportunity to participate in the academic and research environment while also contributing to high-quality clinical physics practice at Jefferson's regional sites. The Cherry Hill and Washington Township locations are approximately a 20-30 minute drive from the Center City Philadelphia campus supporting close clinical collaboration across sites. The successful candidate will be expected to perform peer-reviewed research, participate in standard Medical Physics tasks and lead commissioning projects, contribute to a specialty program (SRS, brachytherapy, MRI-Linac), and teach the Medical Physics and Radiation Oncology residents. Dedicated research/project time will be provided. A PhD in Medical Physics is required for this position. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, have a strong ambition to perform impactful research, be rigorous in their clinical work, and be enthusiastic about participating in educational programs.
