Employment Status: Full time Shift: Variable Hours (United States of America) Facility: 3 Health Cir - Lexington Requisition Number: R160408 FLIGHT RN - LifeGuard 12 - FT (Open) How You'll Help Transform Healthcare: The Flight RN/RN Transport Specialist collaborates with the CCPT Communications Center and air/ground transport teams to provide individualized care and transportation for patients of all ages, with a focus on those who are critically ill. Utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide high-quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to patient care. Working in a transport environment around rotor-wing aircraft, ambulances, fire engines, machines with continuous moving parts that can be extremely dangerous without proper precautions. The aircraft is restricted by weight and balance and therefore, all staff are expected to maintain The RN Transport Specialist Maintains mission readiness at all times. Ensures safety for self, vehicle, patient, transport team, and community during all phases of transport. Provides clear, concise, and accurate electronic documentation of patient transports in accordance with CCPT policy. Performs comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments appropriate for critically ill patients during transport. Uses situational monitoring to assess and reassess patient needs and modifies care based on changing clinical conditions. Participates in chart review processes and provides constructive feedback to peers. Adheres to regional EMS protocols, state and federal regulations, CAMTS requirements, Virginia OEMS standards, and Carilion Clinic policies and procedures. Completes required training, education, and competency validations within established timeframes. Completes and maintains all flight crew training and operational requirements as directed by FAA regulations and aviation vendor standards. Assists with training, mentoring, and onboarding of co-workers. Participates in public relations and community outreach activities as directed, including presentations related to operations, safety, and clinical capabilities. Uses evidence-based practice and accurately applies clinical protocols during patient care. Provides clinical care that consistently meets CCPT quality, safety, and documentation standards. What We Require: Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing is required. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of critical care experience REQUIRED. Critical care experience is defined as no less than 4,000 hours in an ICU or emergency department. Licensure/Certification: Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Additional state licensure may be required depending on base location. CFRN (Certified Flight Registered Nurse) must be obtained within two years of hire and maintained. Must obtain EMT-B within six months of hire and maintain. Must obtain EVOC, NRP, and Haz-Mat Awareness within twelve months of hire and maintain. Must meet and maintain FAA and aviation vendor requirements for flight crew eligibility. Must maintain a driving record in compliance with CCPT Driver Safety Policy and Carilion Risk Management standards. Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP and ACLS must be completed and maintained. PALS and TNCC or ATLS (audit) must be obtained and maintained as required. Other Minimum Qualifications: Must demonstrate proficiency in advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills required for care of critically ill patients. Must demonstrate strong critical thinking, assessment, communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills. Must be able to perform effectively in high-stress, rapidly changing environments including emergency scenes, rotor-wing aircraft, ground ambulances, indoor facilities, and outdoor settings. Must be able to tolerate flight-related physiologic stressors, including those described in the USAF "9 stresses of flight." In order to minimize unscheduled service interruptions and for ease of scheduling PR outreach, it is required that the employee's primary home location is within 130 miles from the Roanoke CCPT location (preferred - within 90 miles).
