Cloud Engineer (Platform Operations)

About the role

We are looking for a Cloud Engineer to maintain and support our platforms and infrastructure across AWS cloud and on-premises environments. This role focuses on ensuring platform reliability, implementing modern operational practices, and supporting infrastructure modernisation initiatives, including hybrid and cloud migration efforts, while maintaining robust support for existing on-premises systems. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the stability, security, and efficiency of essential IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Maintain infrastructure platforms (compute, storage, virtualisation, networking) across dev, staging, and production, spanning AWS and on-premises.
• Implement platform standards, automation, and modern operational practices to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Support platform enhancement initiatives and new infrastructure solutions, including AWS services, aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
• Manage on-premises virtualisation (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), including capacity monitoring and lifecycle management.
• Manage AWS cloud infrastructure, including provisioning, cost optimisation, and operations of core services (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS).
• Execute patching strategies using automation to maintain security and stability with minimal disruption.
• Provide L2/L3 support for platform incidents, including problem determination and resolution.
• Maintain backup, DR, and high-availability solutions across on-premises and AWS.
• Implement security controls, including access management, hardening, and compliance monitoring.
• Collaborate with application teams on platform stability, performance, and scalability.
• Maintain platform documentation, runbooks, and SOPs.
• Implement monitoring/observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch) and support containerisation/IaC initiatives (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS, Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
• Required
• Experience maintaining infrastructure platforms: compute, storage, virtualisation, and networking.
• Hands-on AWS experience (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, CloudWatch).
• Experience managing on-premises virtualisation platforms (VMware or Hyper-V).
• Experience with IaC and automation tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
• Experience with patching, backup, DR, and high-availability practices.
• Working knowledge of security hardening, access management, and compliance.
• Strong problem-solving skills with L2/L3 support experience.
• Good communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with containerisation/orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS) is a plus.
