About the role
The radiation therapist will administer ionizing radiation to patients under the supervision of a Radiation Oncologist and in accordance with New York State Department of Health Code part 16. guidelines. In addition, the radiation therapist must operate high voltage machinery safely and accurately and communicate to pertinent personnel when malfunctions occur. The radiation therapist will always concern themselves with the welfare of the patient and will conduct themselves in a responsible and professional manner. Satisfactory completion of a training program in a Radiation Therapy Technology program in an AMA approved school, meeting the requirements for registry by the ARRT, and being licensed as a Radiation Therapist by the State of New York Department of Health is required.
Responsibilities
- The Radiation Therapist provides radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist according to established practices and standards.
- Accurately enters and maintains patient treatment parameters into the electronic medical record.
- Accurately interprets a computerized treatment plan.
- Observes patients daily for reactions and immediately reports any adverse reactions to the Radiation Oncology Nurse or the Radiation Oncologist.
- The Radiation Therapist should facilitate complex problem solving regarding technical issues.
- Ability to perform Image Guidance independently as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Knowledge of optical surface monitoring system a plus.
- Skilled in performing CT Simulations utilizing various imaging standards.
- NY State IV contrast certified, or able to complete necessary requirements for certification.
- Assist with initial patient chart entry, as well as ongoing weekly therapist chart management.
- Attends weekly Chart Rounds on a rotating basis.
- Display professional conduct is essential to the well-being of the radiation oncology patient.
- Adhere to NYSDOH, ARRT, and ACRO radiation safety protocols.
