About the role
We're hiring a Developer Relations Evangelist with a focus on community to be the connective tissue between AssemblyAI and the developer ecosystem building with voice AI. You'll maintain a strong presence in SF while also being on the road - sponsoring meetups, live demoing the API constantly, and proselytizing the product directly to developers in the field. This person is technical by nature, lives and breathes the SF Bay Area developer scene, and turns relationships, content, and events into a steady drumbeat of momentum for AssemblyAI. This is a high-visibility, high-ownership role that reports into Marketing and works closely with our founding team, growth engineering, field marketing, and product.
Responsibilities
- Own the AssemblyAI developer community
- Build, grow, and nurture our developer community across Reddit, social channels, and in-person touchpoints
- Be the proactive face of AssemblyAI in conversations across X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Discord, Hacker News, and other surfaces where voice AI builders gather
- Monitor competitor and category mentions, jump into relevant conversations, and surface insights back to product and marketing
- Develop programs that turn developers into long-term advocates-ambassador programs, beta cohorts, recognition for great builds
- Drive a creator and influencer engine
- Co-create demos, tutorials, and short-form videos with creators and partners, with a particular focus on our Voice Agent API
- Run hands-on builds yourself: ship demos, sample apps, and viral technical content that show what's possible with AssemblyAI
- Surface potential influencers to the growth team - and partner with technical content creators (YouTube, X, TikTok, newsletters) who can showcase how easy it is to build with our APIs
- Live demo our realtime APIs in the field
- Be on the road 40%+ of the time at meetups, hackathons, partner events, and developer gatherings - live demoing our realtime APIs in front of builders
- Treat every event as a chance to show, not tell: get our models in front of developers' eyes and ears so they can hear the quality of our transcription and voice agents firsthand
- Build a rolling library of demo scenarios, sample apps, and "wow moments" you can pull off-the-shelf at any event with minimal setup
- Power developer community events (in person)
- Serve as boots-on-the-ground execution support for AssemblyAI's SF developer event motion - meetups, hackathons, third-party event sponsorships, etc
- Represent AssemblyAI at other meetups and developer events across the US - meeting builders, identifying partners, and bringing back intel
- Help conceive and execute high-leverage community moments (e.g., vibe coding voice agent hackathons, partner collabs, launch-week activations)
- Contribute to launches and campaigns
- Partner with product marketing to amplify launches with creator content, community activations, and developer-first story
Additional Information
Why AssemblyAI AssemblyAI builds the best-in-class Voice AI models powering the next generation of voice applications. Our models serve 600M+ inference calls monthly, process 1M+ hours of audio daily, and power 2 billion+ end-user experiences. The Voice AI space is at an inflection point; we're looking for folks truly excited to join a small team and help define the future of the industry. We are one of the most capital-efficient AI companies on the planet - with under 100 people generating roughly $500K ARR per employee, we sit among the top 5 most revenue-dense teams within the fastest-growing AI companies today. That's not an accident; it's a deliberate choice to stay lean, move fast, and give every person on the team outsized ownership and impact. With thousands of customers including Granola, Fireflies, Figure AI, and CallRail, the company has real scale - processing over 2 million hours of audio daily and handling more than 1 million API calls every day. This is a rare growth-stage opportunity where the business is proven and the trajectory is steep, but the team is still small enough that your fingerprints are on everything. If you've ever felt buried under layers of bureaucracy, starved of real ownership, or frustrated watching your work disappear into a slow-moving org, AssemblyAI is built differently. The company operates as a true meritocracy, with no heavy planning or approval processes and no gatekeeping on the tools or information you need. For anyone who genuinely cares about voice AI, not as a trend to chase, but as a technology to build, this is the place where the most interesting problems at the most interesting scale are being solved by a team small enough that you'll actually know everyone's name. We're committed to creating a space where our employees can bring their full selves to work and have equal opportunity to succeed. No matter your race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, origin, ability, age, veteran status, if joining this mission speaks to you, we encourage you to apply!
