About the role

This position serves as Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Supply Chain Management within the VA Health Care System. As a Supply Technician, you will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/18/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Advancement to positions up to GS-5. Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as: providing supplies and material to clinical and/or administrative areas of a facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with regulations and policy; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates my ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable.(TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. Driver's License: A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid state-issued Driver's License. A Best Qualified candidate will clearly define their possession of the below skill sets in their work experience history on the resume and assessment responses. Ability to utilize VistA and GIP (Generic Inventory Program) to identify and understand requirements for ordering consumable products. Ability to understand and utilize rules, regulations governing as it pertain to rotating stock , and maintaining appropriate environmental controls. Ability to understand requirements, identify issues, and make decisions based on current criteria to maintain adequate stock levels for supplies and equipment. Ability to work establish priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Ability to provide customer service, follow up, and reports to management.
