About the role
CME Group is seeking a SRE I to begin their career in our Markets portfolio. This is an entry-level opportunity to learn how to build, operate, and scale the systems behind CME's Globex trading platform. Our systems deliver an exceptional combination of low-latency performance and rock-solid reliability, and this role offers a unique chance to learn from the ground up. The successful candidate will be mentored by senior engineers and will be trained on how we observe, monitor, automate, and improve Production service reliability in a supportive team environment.
Responsibilities
- Learn from and work alongside senior engineers to assist with building out observability, monitoring, and alerting for key services.
- Shadow senior engineers as they partner with product teams to understand the reliability and scalability needs for new features.
- Write and maintain basic scripts and tools to help reduce toil and improve engineering velocity.
- Contribute to and learn from our culture of blameless post-mortems to drive continuous improvement.
- Assist with DR (Disaster Recovery) and systems resiliency testing.
- Support the migration of markets applications to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- After a period of training and mentorship, begin to shadow and then participate in the on-call rotation with direct support from senior engineers.
Requirements

- Foundational programming/scripting skills (e.g., Python, Java, C++, Bash) demonstrated through coursework, personal projects, or internships.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a curious mindset.
