Assistant Engineering Manager (12-Month Maternity Cover)

Responsibilities

• Leading and motivating your team to deliver safe, reliable and well-presented vehicles
• Scheduling and prioritising vehicle maintenance and servicing activities
• Supporting team development, identifying training needs and fostering continuous improvement
• Quality checking vehicles after maintenance to ensure high standards are met
• Upholding health, safety and environmental standards in line with legislation and Stagecoach policy

Requirements

• Relevant engineering experience, including mechanical, electrical and bodywork knowledge
• Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant engineering field (mechanical or automotive)
• Experience managing or supervising a workshop or technical team, and a strong understanding of PCV operations
• Strong understanding of health and safety practices and regulatory standards
• A people-centred approach to leadership, with strong communication and influencing skills
• Ability to plan, analyse, and make confident decisions in a dynamic environment

We're looking for a hands-on, people-focused Assistant Engineering Manager for our Chesterfield depot on a 12-month fixed-term basis, covering a period of maternity leave. You'll be supporting a fleet of over 80 vehicles across Derbyshire. As Assistant Engineering Manager, you'll play a central role in ensuring our fleet is clean, safe, and road-ready, while supporting the ongoing development of the workshop as our fleet evolves, including the introduction of electric vehicles and associated depot infrastructure.
