- Strong technical foundation in backend systems - Java/Spring Boot or equivalent; ability to engage credibly in architecture discussions
- Proven track record of delivering complex projects on time with high quality
- Experience with performance management - setting expectations, coaching through gaps, documenting and escalating when needed
- Ability to balance technical debt, feature delivery, and team health tradeoffs
- Strong communication skills - direct, transparent, effective with engineers and stakeholders alike
- Familiarity with modern engineering practices: CI/CD, observability, microservices
- Bonus points if you have
- Experience with React/TypeScript or full-stack teams
- Familiarity with Kafka, GraphQL, or distributed data systems
- Exposure to AI-assisted development practices (spec-driven dev, Claude Code, Copilot)
- Experience managing teams through significant transitions (new product area, rapid scaling)
- Background in observability, SRE, or reliability engineering domains
