Information Security Specialist

About the role

You will serve as an INFORMATION SECURITY SPECIALIST within the NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND. GS- 13 Level: I have one year of specialized experience performing work equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector demonstrating analytical, planning, advisory, operational, and evaluative work that has as its principal purpose the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, standards, training, and methods for identifying and protecting information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, espionage, sabotage, or loss. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following: Executing and/or supervising operations in an accredited Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF); Maintaining Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) directives, regulations, and guidelines, and managing the SCI document control; Investigating and analyzing a variety of information security problems, questions, or conditions associated with security, formulating projects or studies to alter existing security systems. Establishing and maintaining security standards for program effectiveness and plan for multiple program or broad subject area evaluation; Conducting pre-screening interviews, ensuring proper execution of non-disclosure statements, preparing Security Access Eligibility Reviews and all SCI billets and access. Maintaining personnel security records, to include update of JPAS, DISS and other databases; and Establishing and implementing written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Emergency Action Plans (EAP) for security contingency operations. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following: Ensuring Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) materials are properly maintained and secured; Accrediting and managing SCIFs; Fixed Facility Checklists, TEMPEST, and accrediting documentation and procedures; Reading and interpreting policy/guidance and problem solving across all functions of SCI security; and Coordinating with scientific, technical, and other subject-matter specialists to assess risk of loss, value of loss, and the classification level appropriate to information sensitivity.
