The Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) is seeking a skilled and collaborative Farrier to join the Equine and Nemo Farm Animal Hospital (ENFAH) located in Ithaca, NY. The Farrier is responsible for all hoof care instruction and clinical services within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Cornell University Hospital for Animals. The position provides comprehensive farrier services across Cornell University, including care for ENFAH patients and Cornell‑owned horses. In addition to clinical responsibilities, this position serves as lead instructor for the Farrier Certificate Program, a 16‑week intensive program offered three times per year for individuals seeking to advance their professional farrier skills and one-week Advanced Farrier Training program experience This position works closely with Department of Clinical Sciences (DCS) faculty and may report directly to a veterinarian‑farrier faculty member. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in education, animal science, or a related field, plus three years of professional farrier experience with multiple breeds and equine disciplines; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Advanced or specialized farrier certification, such as: American Farrier's Association (AFA) or Certified Journeyman Farrier (CJF) Therapeutic Endorsement International Association of Professional Farriers (IAPF) Accredited Farrier (APF I) Or comparable international certification Demonstrated experience in therapeutic farriery, including collaboration with veterinarians and veterinary clinics Evidence of continuing professional education over the past five years Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting over 50 lbs and standing for extended periods Ability to collaborate and develop section priorities with the associated DCS faculty member. Expected to adapt and develop under the intended structure. Ability to adapt and grow within an evolving academic and clinical structure Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department. Important Details about the Position This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY. We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position. While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
