Job Summary Pediatric Echocardiography Technician responsibilities include, but not limited to, performing pediatric echocardiograms on populations between 0 to 21 years, fetal echocardiograms on women of all age groups, and echocardiograms on adults with congenital heart disease. Performs echocardiograms on fetuses, infants and children for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Prepares patients and provides instructions during the echocardiogram. This position will travel to multiple locations within The Bronx and Westchester. Essential Functions Organizes daily case load with lead technologist or pediatric cardiologist. * Orderly flow of procedures in echo lab. Verifies order for examination; obtains medical history, including referral diagnosis and reason for test. * All procedures are ordered by a physician. Orients the patient and/or parent, including Explanation of procedure using age-appropriate terminology. * Patient and/or parents demonstrate understanding study performed. Performs and designs echocardiographic study Studies meet quality standards. to define and document anatomy and physiology of the heart, to identify or rule out congenital or acquired anomalies, and assess ventricular function in pre- and post-operative patients. * Studies meet quality standards. Performs and designs fetal echocardiographic study to define and document anatomy and physiology of the fetal heart, to identify or rule out congenital abnormalities and assess ventricular function. * Studies meet quality standards. Performs and designs TEE echocardiographic studies to define and document anatomy and physiology of the heart, to identify or rule out congenital or acquired anomalies, and assess ventricular function in pre- and post-operative patients including transplant patients. * Studies meet quality standards Performs and designs echocardiographic studies on infants and neonates to define and document anatomy and physiology of the heart, to identify or rule out congenital or acquired anomalies, and assess ventricular function in pre- and post-operative patients. * Studies meet quality standards. Creates a preliminary interpretation report and presents case to attending physician. * Physician receives report and case presentation in a timely manner. Monitored by lead tech or pediatric cardiologist. Assists medical staff with special/invasive procedures. * Procedures are done efficiently. Maintains echo equipment in good working order, including cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and inspecting transducers according to manufacturer recommendations; identifies and reports equipment malfunctions. * Equipment and transducers are kept in good working condition and are well maintained. Well-functioning lab. Keeps echo exam rooms and adjoining areas clean; monitors and restocks supplies, reporting items to be reordered. * Echo examination rooms are always fully stocked and ready to perform procedures. Participates in the Pediatric Echocardiography Technician on call schedule. * Shares in fair and equitable on call schedule. Develops knowledge of anatomy, physiology, surgical repair, and related subjects through personal reading and attendance at continuing education programs; presents regularly at didactic sessions; assists in data collection for research studies. * Demonstrates acquired knowledge in performance of echos and presentation of findings to attending. Participates actively in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement program. * Data is collected and recorded in a timely manner. Performs any additional related duties as needed. * Echo lab functions efficiently and effectively.
