Principal Product Designer

About the role

We're looking for a strategic player coach - a Lead Product Designer who's ready to tackle complex UX challenges and elevate our product to new heights. If you're excited to dive deep into intricate design problems, raise the bar for design quality, and design and build a complex interface to data. You'll shape the workflows that empower technical users to seamlessly explore and understand their data. You'll dig into user needs, collaborate closely with product and engineering on product strategy, and help foster a culture where design is seen as crucial to our success. You will largely own both the design and much of the implementation of a cloud hosted offering. Experience in data interfaces, especially business intelligence, SQL and data exploration interfaces is a giant plus. We value curiosity, humility, ambition, and designers who understand the technical underpinnings of data, and can even implement their own designs. This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our Oakland, CA office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and utilize user research to deeply understand our technical users. Proactively identifying user needs, pain points, and opportunities. Inform design decisions with insights from your research and validate your concepts through testing and feedback.
• Deliver with grit and urgency and drive impactful results in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate resilience in navigating ambiguity, proactively unblock challenges, maintain momentum, and ensure high-quality design outcomes in a dynamic environment.
• Skills We're Looking For
• 8+ years of experience in end-to-end Product Design with significant experience designing for data-heavy, complex, technical or developer-oriented SaaS/B2B products.
• Extensive AI tool and development experience
• Proven track record of leading major design initiatives.
• Proven track record of leading and mentoring other designers.
• Exceptional product design skills, including user research, UX/interaction design, information architecture, and high-fidelity prototyping.
• Strong systems-thinking capability with the ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity and simplify highly technical workflows.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to articulate design decisions clearly to diverse audiences including engineers, product managers, and executives.
• Comfortable balancing strategic vision with practical, hands-on execution.
• Experience working in data integration, analytics, developer tools, or related technical fields is strongly preferred.
