Research Officer -Hellenic Observatory, Centre for Research on Contemporary Greece and Cyprus

LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university LSE Centre for Research on Contemporary Greece and Cyprus - Hellenic Observatory Funding is available to support this position for two years We invite applications for a Research Officer to join our busy programme of research on the Greek and Cypriot economy, politics and society. Current research at the Centre includes projects on housing; the labour market; democratic resilience; social stereotypes; public procurement; industrial policy; education; gender inequalities; financial literacy; and others. The successful candidate will work closely with Prof Monastiriotis in developing, planning and implementing the Hellenic Observatory's research agenda; and contributing to its various streams of research, including by providing support and guidance to junior researchers working on individual projects. Candidates should hold a completed PhD, or be close to completing a PhD, in Economics or closely related discipline by the post start date (including but not limited to public policy, political science, quantitative sociology, or economic geography); extensive experience in data processing and large data management; solid working knowledge of applied micro-econometrics and quasi-experimental techniques; and familiarity with AI and data science tools. They will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, good time-management and multi-tasking skills, and experience in producing publications for internationally recognised journals. Experience in statistical software such as Stata, R or Python is required. Knowledge of contemporary Greece/Cyprus and working knowledge of modern Greek is an advantage but not essential. Familiarity with methods of spatial analysis will also be an advantage. The successful candidate will be involved in all stages of research, from data collection and analysis to writing academic papers and policy digests and to preparing applications for external research grants. They will also be expected to contribute to the life of the Centre through active involvement in, and support to, its research seminars, its discussion papers series, and various public engagement and knowledge exchange activities. The post-holder will be offered a research budget for conferences and related activities, as well as opportunities to participate in policy and research events in London, Greece/Cyprus, and elsewhere.
