About the role
Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £36,636 to £46,049 with potential progression once in post to £48,822 Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract up to March 2028 Development of Portable Diagnostic Technologies The successful candidate will join an ambitious interdisciplinary team within the Advanced Nano Materials, Structures and Applications (ANMSA) Group, one of the leading academic groups in the field of development of novel micro and nanostructures, miniaturised diagnostic technologies and complementary optical processes. This is a multi-disciplinary project, requiring a strong background in Physics, Engineering and in particularly experience in Optics. The position offers an exciting opportunity to apply novel optical and lithographic processes with translational applications in medicine collaborating with medical researchers and clinicians. We are based at the Biomedical Engineering School and the new Interdisciplinary Institute of Healthcare Technologies, University of Birmingham, a collaborative environment with world class facilities. We are looking for a highly motivated, bright and enthusiastic candidate with a strong background in nanofabrication, characterisation and development of nanostructures for various applications, understanding of nanotechnologies with knowledge of Raman Spectroscopy and preferably a familiarity with SERS and the associated multivariate analysis methods. The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science or a related area, and an excellent publication record. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in materials and thin film processing and particularly expertise in nanoscience, lithographic techniques and nanobio-technologies. These aspects require a high level of literacy and numeracy, coupled with an ability to develop new techniques and use of unfamiliar equipment. These skills will make the associate highly employable after the post. Main Duties The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.
