About the role

The NISC IV program within the Digital Modernization Group at Leidos is seeking a Sr. Technical Writer to support the FAA's System Operations Security Group (AJR-2). You will assist the FAA by developing requirements for a specialized automation project, documenting Standard Operating Procedures, and process documents and checklists for security and UAS operations managed by AJR-2. The ideal candidate will have experience in gathering and writing requirements, formatting and documenting procedures, and experience tracking program deliverables. This position will support the FAA System Operations Security Office with air traffic requirements, air traffic policy and procedures, UAS security programs requests, and developing after action reporting formatting for UAS Security operations. Support will also integrate documentation into the context of broader Air Traffic Management objectives; and developing plans, SOPs, and procedures to support these functions. Primary Responsibilities Support the FAA by documenting the impact of Counter Unmanned Aerial System (CUAS) activities on Air Traffic Operations. Providing technical writing support in documenting and supporting development of policies, procedures, or protocols to minimize risks to the safe and efficient flow of air traffic posed by CUAS operations. Duties will include tracking and reporting the operational impact of CUAS activities, suggesting policies in need of documenting, assisting the team with review of documentation, reviewing and editing responses to UAS Security inquiries from OIG, Congress, and ATO Leadership. Other related duties as assigned. Provide support to ensure the quality of deliverables and products. Collect, analyze, coordinate, and disseminate UAS security related data and evaluate how UAS impact the security work of AJR-24. Develop or modify plans, procedures, SOPs, work tools, orders, and other documents related to addressing the operations of UAS and the concomitant implications of UAS Operations in the NAS. Develop products that document plans, procedures, methods, techniques, agreements, and other artifacts resulting from UAS security work. Support the FAA Records and Information Management (RIM) Program as assigned

Requirements

  • Requires a BA degree and 8 to 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 to 10 years of prior relevant experience or if no degree, additional related work experience can be substituted.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including MS Teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience with technical writing and strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to understand and originate documentation pertaining to automation programs.
  • Solid experience gathering and writing requirements for FAA Procedures.
  • Experience tracking automation program development.
  • Must be able to pass an FAA Public Trust Security Investigation. (To be eligible must be either a US Citizen or Green Card Holder who has resided in the US for the past 3 years).
  • Experience within the aviation sector, preferably with the FAA.
