This Accounting Specialist will support Disaster Recovery Programs by ensuring compliance with complex state and federal regulations governing fund disbursement and grant management. Position will review reimbursement requests, verify vendor setup in the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS), perform various accounting functions such as journal entries, expenditure audits, and grant reporting. Working closely with the Grants Accounting Manager and Accounts Payable Supervisor, the Accounting Specialists help oversee invoice processing, financial reporting, and internal control procedures. Given the high volume of grant funds ranging from $115M to $750M annually, this role is essential for maintaining accurate records, meeting financial obligations, and ensuring the agency remains compliant with diverse and evolving grant requirements. About the NC DPS Controller's Office and Disaster Grants Section: The DPS Controller's Office ensures that all department financial resources and funds are received, disbursed, recorded, and accounted for in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Department policy and procedures. The Controller's Office at the agency level has oversight responsibility of this department and is accountable to the office of the State Controller for the integrity of that data. The objective of the Disaster Grants section is to ensure fiscal accountability of the use of funds awarded to the agency from various sources. This includes but is not limited to compliance, interpreting, and applying federal regulations, cash management and reporting of expenditures. The agency receives federal grants, cooperative agreements, state grants, and private grants. This is a full time TIME-LIMITED position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits for a limited duration of time (with the potential to extend up to 36months). This position is EXEMPT from most provisions of the State Human Resources Act (GS 126) The work schedule is Monday - Friday 8am-5pm.
