About the role

Under the general direction of the System Director of Nursing Excellence, the Nurse Excellence Programs Strategist serves as a key strategic leader responsible for advancing systemwide professional nursing excellence through the successful achievement and sustainment of ANCC Magnet®, Pathway to Excellence®, and Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) designations. This role supports the coordination, education, infrastructure development, and operational readiness required to uphold these accreditations across the organization. This system-wide Nurse Excellence Programs Strategist partners with nursing leadership, shared governance councils, and frontline nurses to cultivate a professional practice environment grounded in exemplary professional practice, transformational leadership, structural empowerment, new knowledge and innovations, quality, safety, well-being, and empirical nursing outcomes. Through expert guidance, document development, data analysis, and accreditation preparation, this role strengthens the nursing professional practice model and supports continuous performance excellence. This role is responsible for maintaining a visible and consistent presence across all BH facilities. Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Supports systemwide coordination and education of Magnet®, Pathway®, and PTAP program requirements, ensuring readiness across all domains.
  • Serve as a mentor and consultant to nurses at all levels related to professional nursing excellence standards and initiatives.
  • Support the development, planning, and execution of all phases of accreditation cycles including gap analyses, document creation, evidence collection, and submission preparation.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure alignment between nursing excellence goals and organizational strategic priorities.
  • Lead development and writing of Magnet®, Pathway®, and PTAP documents and exemplars, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to ANCC requirements
  • Partner with clinical, operational, and quality teams to collect, analyze, and trend empirical outcomes demonstrating sustained nursing excellence and outperformance
  • Translate data into meaningful narratives and actionable insights for leaders, council members, and accreditation reviewers.
  • Maintain outcome dashboards and performance metrics required to support designation standards.
  • Provide leadership, consultation, and facilitation for the system Nurse Senate of Practice shared governance structure.
  • Mentor council chairs and members to support effective governance operations, reporting structures, and evaluation processes.
  • Support the systemwide clinical policy development and review process to ensure consistent, evidence based practice.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary leaders to maintain timely, standardized, and regulatory compliant clinical policies across the system.
  • Ensure policies reflect current evidence, professional standards, and accrediting body expectations.
  • Skills/Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of Magnet®, Pathway to Excellence®, and PTAP standards, including document structure, sources of evidence, elements of performance, and outcome expectations.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, including the ability to craft compelling exemplars grounded in evidence and data.
  • Ability to lead large, complex, multi-site projects and accreditation cycles.
  • Advanced analytical skills with proficiency in data interpretation, benchmarking, and trend analysis.
  • Skilled in shared governance facilitation, professional practice development, and change management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills across all BH entities and levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and systemwide coordination.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, data visualization platforms, and document management systems.

Requirements

  • Required Experience
  • Licensed RN to practice in MA with at least 5 years clinical experience and nursing leadership. Demonstrated experience in professional practice, nursing excellence, or accreditation work (ANCC Magnet/Pathway/PTAP)
  • Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience supporting Magnet®, Pathway®, or PTAP documentation or accreditation cycles. Project management experience. Experience in an academic medical center or high reliability organization.
  • Education
  • Master of Science. At least one degree in Nursing must be held.
