About the role
Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor , apply high quality radiation treatments to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.
Responsibilities
- Check s prescription s , diagnoses , electronic chart s and patient identification s .
- Explain s procedures to patient and advises patient regarding reactions to treatment.
- Prepare s room and equipment , including immobilization devices and radiation accessories, for each pa tient according to prescription.
- Transfer s patients safely to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, IV's, etc.
- Perform s all imaging as prescribed and document s according to office policy. Follow s all mandated supervision requirements.
- Deliver s accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy under the general supervision of the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Administrator.
- Maintain s visual and audio communication with patient receiving treatment at all times.
- Accurately and neatly maintain s patient markings and all documentation regarding setup requirements.
- Observe s patient for any unusual reactions or symptoms requiring medical intervention and report s these issues to nursing and/or the radiation oncologist.
- Observe s radiation safety guidelines at all times for patient and personnel. Always follow ALARA principles.
- Prepare s immobilization devices and perform s simulations and treatment planning scans as requested by the radiation oncologist. Complete s all documentation associated with these procedures.
- Assist s in dosimetry as needed , importing treatment planning scans, contouring, and double checking of monitor unit calculations.
- Attend s chart rounds as rotation requires.
- Perform s all daily warm - up and quality assurance procedures. Report s any results outside of requi r ed ranges.
- Secure s and maintain s supplies.
- Report s any faults reported on the linear accelerator to Varian and radiation oncologist/radiation administer. Maintain log of all reported issues.
- Ensure s the safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Submit s proper documents to billing to ensure timely billing . Accurately review s summary of patient's charges.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of the patient throughout the course of the procedure.
- Participates and collaborates in accreditations and special projects of SRO as required .
- May be asked to participate in development of SRO polices and procedures.
- Maintains compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for completing, in a timely manner, all mandated training and in-services, including but not limited to annual OSHA training and PPD placements.
- Maintain s licensure and complete s all continuing education requirements.
- Maintains a high level of patient confidentiality.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- What We Expect from You
- Graduate from an accredited Radiologic T herapy T echnology program with a current or eligible certificate of registry from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A RRT)
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer Skills
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems.

- $55.00 - $60.00 per hour
