About the role
The Facilities and Business Operations Department is seeking to hire a Maintenance Technician II focused on paint care. Responsibilities
- Perform painting and maintenance tasks for university buildings and equipment following university standards and safety guidelines.
- Apply paints, varnishes, stains, urethanes, enamels, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, and related tools.
- Prepare surfaces by removing old finishes, filling cracks and holes, and ensuring proper surface conditions before painting.
- Mix and match paint colors, including custom color matching for aged, discontinued, or faded finishes.
- Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner, including documenting labor hours, materials used, and work performed.
- Identify and report maintenance, safety, sanitation, or repair concerns to supervisors.
- Assist central shops, contractors, campus departments, and university events with support and maintenance needs.
- Maintain inventory control, equipment security, and compliance with university, local, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in required safety training and collaborate with other Facilities Operations teams as needed.
- Provide support during personnel shortages, emergencies, and other assigned maintenance duties.
Requirements
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6) .
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance or a related field, with a focus on painting and building systems maintenance.
- Experience with interior and exterior painting, including knowledge of surface preparation for proper paint adhesion, and paint application techniques.
- Proven expertise in applying a wide range of paints, coatings, and finishes using various tools and equipment.
- Ability to mix and match colors, including working with discontinued or aged paint.
- Proficiency in carpentry to complete minor repairs to surfaces prior to painting and perform other preparations to include cleaning, scraping, sanding, and patching imperfections on walls, ceilings, doors, and trim.
- Familiarity with using spray equipment, rollers, brushes, and other necessary painting tools.
- Knowledge of building systems maintenance, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or other general trades.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
- Proficiency with using standard office software applications to include Microsoft Office, work order systems (e.g., Integrated Work Management System) and utilize telecommunication devices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to changing priorities and emergency situations effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping, inventory management, and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Able to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with various campus departments and teams to address facility needs and ensure smooth operations.
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions and within differing climates and at different elevations.

- UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
- Special Instructions to the Applicants:
- The anticipated salary range for this position is $17.64 to $22.00. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
- This position is eligible for 5% Shift Differential Pay of the pay range minimum.
- Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
- May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination and training in use of respirators.
