About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Customer Service Specialist to support U.S. Customs brokerage operations. This role is responsible for assisting clients with entry-related inquiries, processing import documentation, and ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations while delivering timely and accurate service. This is a full-time Monday-Friday position with standard business hours, based at our Laredo, TX. office. What the Candidate Will Do Serve as a primary point of contact for clients regarding U.S. Customs brokerage services, including entry documentation, shipment status, and basic compliance inquiries. Prepare, review, and process import documentation in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, internal SOPs, and client-specific requirements. Demonstrate working knowledge of current tariff programs and trade remedies (including Section 232, Section 301, ADD/CVD indicators, and preferential trade programs), and accurately apply them under supervision. Monitor and adapt to ongoing tariff changes and regulatory updates, ensuring entries are processed correctly and escalated when necessary. Coordinate with internal teams (operations, compliance, accounting, and carriers) to resolve routine shipment issues and avoid clearance delays. Maintain accurate, well-organized records of entries, client communications, and supporting documentation in accordance with audit and retention requirements. Provide timely and professional shipment updates, status reports, and issue notifications to clients. Demonstrate self-reliance by independently researching routine questions, reviewing regulations, and utilizing internal resources before escalating issues. Identify potential entry discrepancies or compliance risks and promptly escalate to senior team members or compliance when appropriate. Communicate effectively and professionally in both English and Spanish, verbally and in writing, with clients, carriers, and internal stakeholders. Support continuous improvement by following established processes, identifying gaps, and suggesting efficiencies when applicable.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite/Google Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- 1-2 years of experience in U.S. Customs brokerage, import operations, or trade compliance.
- Working knowledge of tariff classification, duty programs, and CBP entry processes.
- Bilingual: English and Spanish, with full professional proficiency in both written and verbal communication
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or equivalent customs training preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities combined with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
