Job Description Summary At GE Aerospace, we invent the future of flight, lift people up and bring them home safely. Located in Bohemia, Long Island, New York, and Rockledge, Florida, GE Aerospace's Hypersonics Center of Excellence builds on GE's 125+ years of industrial research heritage coupled with Innoveering's legacy of high speed air-breathing propulsion system development, tackling the most challenging engineering problems through multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative technologies. Together, we create and sustain differentiated solutions to maintain competitive advantages for GE Aerospace and our customers. Job Description As a Lead Engineer - Aerodynamics, you will be focused on developing prediction methods and technologies to improve aerodynamic, aero-acoustic, aero-mechanical, and thermal performance for various GE Aerospace development programs. You will perform research and development for the next generation of aircraft engine and aerospace technologies. You should have an excellent understanding of the engineering process, leading proof-of-concept ideas towards validated solutions. The ability to relate analytical results to experimental data in the design process is essential. Communication and documentation are critical as you will often need to prepare slides (or other documents) to present to the team, whether it is to describe results of analyses or to discuss project progress. You will work in a team that performs research and development of supersonic and hypersonic air-breathing propulsion and vehicle systems. In this role you will: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary set of engineers to analyze compressible flows in supersonic and hypersonic flight conditions and use these analyses to drive design of flight and propulsion systems. Need the ability to understand engineering principles and applying them to technical tasks. Lead and participate in high-fidelity computational analyses to guide design improvements in the fields of aerodynamics, aero-mechanics and aero-acoustics. You may use both Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and multiphysics solvers. Document and communicate assumptions, inputs and proposed solutions to multidisciplinary teams for review Support validation of new designs and technologies through benchtop or larger-scale testing Prepare presentations and slides to communicate ideas and/or progress on projects Need the ability to work well with Integrated Product Teams to create and verify novel design solutions that meet established program objectives and requirements (technical, cost, schedule) Interact with industry partners and subcontractors to review aerodynamic analyses Required Qualifications: This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status. Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with a strong background in aerodynamics and both reacting and non-reacting compressible flow 3-5 years of aerodynamics analysis experience of supersonic flows Strong understanding of engineering principles and applying them to technical tasks Ability to investigate, model and provide critical insight into complex physical flow phenomena. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Skilled in CFD, preferably using Pointwise, iCFD++ and Tecplot Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance Be willing to work out of an office located in Bohemia, NY or Rockledge, FL Desired Characteristics: Experience in the verification, validation and accreditation (VV&A) process, as it pertains to CFD and other fluid mechanical analytical tools Experience with flight dynamics and trajectory analysis Experience with experimental setups and equipment in a hands-on environment Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed Leadership ability: strong communicator, decision-maker, collaborative Problem solver: analytical-minded, challenges existing processes, critical thinker The base pay range for this position is $114 ,000 - $152,400 USD Annual.
