Departmental Tutor in Old English

About the role

Location: Ewert House, Summertown, Oxford, OX2 7DD Oxford Lifelong Learning in the Department for Continuing Education is seeking to appoint a Departmental Tutor in Old English to develop and deliver our teaching offering in this area. About the role The role will primarily focus on the design, teaching (synchronous and asynchronous), assessment, curriculum development and review of adult lifelong learning courses in Old English. The role holder will design the content and learning materials within existing frameworks and procedures and make appropriate modifications on the basis of knowledge or experience of the learners. Tutors work collaboratively to ensure high standards are maintained and in accordance with the department's Mission, Vision and Values . Teaching will primarily take place online. This is a part-time position (3.75 hours per week, 0.1 FTE) offered on a fixed-term contract from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027. The post-holder will act as a member of the Oxford Lifelong Learning's Languages and Cultural Studies team, which includes the Director of Studies. The successful candidate will be teaching online. About you You will be expected to demonstrate expertise in Old English, a relevant postgraduate qualification (or equivalent research output and publications), experience of supporting adult learners and diverse learner groups in making the most of their studies, and extensive experience of teaching Old English. A teaching qualification or Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy would be an advantage.
