This vacancy is to fill an International Economist (Pathways Recent Graduates) position, under the Pathways Recent Graduate Program, within the Department of Commerce,International Trade Administration. Degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. -OR- B. Combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Specialized Experience Requirement: To qualify at the GS-7 level you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Collecting, compiling, and organizing economic, statistical, or related data from a variety of sources to support studies, projects, or program activities. Using computer applications, such as spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software, to maintain data, prepare reports, and assist with research or analytical assignments. At the GS-7 level education may be substituted for the specialized experience, as follows: A. One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education. -OR- B. Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) based on one of the following: Class standing-upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision. Grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) for all completed undergraduate courses, or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for courses completed in the major field of study. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of graduate education and specialized experience may be deemed qualifying. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
