Description of Work SALARY RANGE: $50,776.00 - $78,526.00 The GAL Program Specialist II is the primary point of contact for the program with potential volunteers and community in Judicial District 14, Cumberland County. The GAL Program Specialist II will provide administrative and office management support to the District Administrator and Program Supervisor staff in a Guardian ad Litem district program. This position will require travel out of the county. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Respond to inquiries from potential volunteers. Process volunteer applications, including criminal, reference and other required checks. Create letters, reports, memos, newsletters and other office communications. May maintain online profiles for the program, including website, volunteer sites, and social media. Assist District Administrator in developing and implementing annual recruitment and training plans. Process volunteer appointment and release orders. Track case assignments and volunteer availability for additional case appointments. Notify volunteers of scheduled and impromptu reviews, conferences and hearings. May attend court hearings and compile notes on proceedings as requested. At the request of the District Administrator, schedule interviews, screen and interview potential volunteers, and check phone references. Under the direction of the District Administrator, support the work of volunteers (depends on workload variables of district). If any of the assigned volunteers leave the cases, the cases will either be assigned to another volunteer or will be removed from the Program Specialist's caseload so that the Program Specialist can be successful in the majority of his/her essential duties which require presence in the office. Assist with duties as assigned by the District Administrator. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies: Knowledge of: office practices and procedures to organize and maintain the office; Microsoft Office and spreadsheet preparation for statistical reports; the Guardian ad Litem program as to is purpose, objectives and responsibilities to communicate the program to volunteers, the public, staff, and other professional personnel. Guardian ad Litem program regulations, policies and procedures; supervision techniques and practices; child neglect and abuse laws; adolescent development and behavior; family dynamics; the court process; community resources; GAL training material; and interviewing techniques. Skills in: working with community volunteers. Ability to: apply specific rules and regulations to process; maintain records and documents; gather and report statistical information; transcribe material into correct form and to use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling; listen with tact and diplomacy; exercise sound judgment; effectively use computer software available to the office; supervise volunteers and evaluate their performance; provide guidance to volunteers in writing advocacy plans, reports to the court and making recommendations to the court in the best interest of children; provide creative leadership in recruiting, supervising, and maintaining volunteers, speak effectively in public; clearly express ideas orally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
