Summary of the Role The Compliance Specialist supports Terumo Thailand and works closely with the APAC Legal and Compliance function. This role is responsible for providing advice and consultancy on compliance matters related to Terumo's business operations in Thailand. The Compliance Specialist actively partners with the local management team to foster a strong culture of values, ethics, and compliance, in alignment with Terumo Core Values, the Terumo Group Code of Conduct, and applicable global, regional, and local policies. This position plays a critical role in reviewing, monitoring, and advising the business to ensure that both existing and new business models, promotional activities, and interactions with healthcare professionals and government officials comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry codes. The role also ensures alignment with global best practices to support sustainable and compliant business growth. Key Functions / Responsibilities Serve as a subject-matter expert (and continuously develop expertise) in applicable anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and antitrust laws, including but not limited to the FCPA, UK Bribery Act, Penal Code of Thailand, Trade Competition Act of Thailand, Public Procurement Regulations, and relevant compliance best practices related to government tenders, public procurement, and engagements with government customers, healthcare organizations, and healthcare professionals. Stay up to date with applicable laws, regulations, regional and local industry codes of conduct, global best practices, and recent enforcement actions by regulators and authorities in the medical devices and pharmaceutical industries. Benchmark Terumo's current operations to identify potential gaps and advise on appropriate corrective actions. Maintain strong awareness of developments in the medical technology industry and actively represent Terumo by participating in regional and local industry forums (e.g., APACMed, ThaiMed) to monitor emerging compliance risks, trends, and best practices in Thailand and across the APAC region. Conduct periodic compliance risk assessments to identify, review, and evaluate material compliance risks to the company, and provide timely updates to the Management Team, Regional, and Head Office Legal & Compliance functions, including through quarterly compliance reports. Collaborate closely with the APAC Legal & Compliance function to cascade, implement, and embed global and regional compliance policies in Thailand. Where necessary, develop local guidance, procedures, and SOPs, and provide guidance, advice, and coaching to business associates to enhance understanding and adherence to these requirements. Plan, develop, and conduct annual compliance training for all associates on existing and new policies, standards, procedures, and SOPs. Review, monitor, and assess compliance risks, including conducting risk-based due diligence, and liaise with the regional Legal & Compliance function to implement appropriate control measures to mitigate risks associated with third parties such as distributors, sub-distributors, channel partners, and high-risk vendors and service providers. Engage early with business teams to provide advice on the planning, structuring, and execution of promotional and educational activities involving healthcare organizations and healthcare professionals. Review, advise on, and approve or reject proposals related to charitable donations, educational or research grants to third parties, and Terumo-organized educational and promotional events involving engagement with healthcare professionals. Coordinate with, consult, and clearly explain the Thailand business model, requirements, and constraints to Regional and Head Office stakeholders. Collaborate to identify appropriate solutions, including modifications or adaptations to existing or new business models, to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and global best practices. Develop the Annual Compliance Activity Plan in collaboration with and aligned to the APAC Legal & Compliance function, and take responsibility for its implementation in Thailand each year. Promote a strong speak-up culture and remain accessible to associates in Thailand to receive and address compliance concerns. Keep local and regional stakeholders informed about the evolution of the compliance and ethics culture.
