About the role

Established Professor The College of Science and Engineering comprises five schools: Biological and Chemical Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Computer Science and Natural Sciences. The College hosts three of the University's six cross-college multidisciplinary research institutes (the Data Science Institute, the Institute for Health Discovery and Innovation, and the Ryan Institute for Marine, Sustainability, Energy and Environment). The College also hosts several national multi-institutional centres , including the Irish Centre for High-End Computing, and its researchers are leaders in many national research and innovation centres in areas such as data analytics, health technologies, quantum, construction innovation, and energy decarbonisation. The College is home to over 850 staff (FTE), 54.5% of whom are international staff, and over 5600 students, of which are 68.8% are undergraduates, 20.2% are postgraduate taught, and 11.1% postgraduate research students. Over 66% of research publications involve international collaborators and the College contributes >60% of University of Galway's research activity and substantially to its innovation activity with 75 licences, options and assignments, 251 research agreements, and 24 patents in the period 2020 - 2025.The College is shaped by, and in turn, enriches, the distinctive strengths of Galway and its region in areas such as health technologies, earth, ocean and marine, built environment, data and cybersecurity, and innovative technologies. As a research-intensive college, research and teaching inform each other, and the inter-disciplinarity and collegiality of the College create an environment where innovation and creativity thrive and enable a transdisciplinary approach to education. Duration of Term: The Executive Dean of College is a fixed-term appointment for four years in the first instance, with the option for a further term of four years, while the post of Established Professor is a permanent appointment.
