Description of Work Recruitment Range: $63,367 - $79,571 IMPORTANT NOTE: This posting closes at 11:59:59 PM the night BEFORE the End Date listed. This Paralegal III position is within the North Carolina Department of Justice/Attorney General's Office (DOJ), Transportation Division, which represents the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) in its litigation and legal matters, including - eminent domain/condemnation actions, employment actions and contract matters. The work of the DOJ's Transportation Division assists DOT in its mission to connect people, products and places. The primary purpose of this Paralegal III position is to lead and oversee the paralegal team within the Condemnation and Contract Claims & Administration Sections of the Transportation Division within the DOJ. The position will ensure high-quality litigation support, compliance with court rules and sections' standards, and will implement process improvements within the Transportation Division in collaboration with the Transportation Senior Deputy and the Condemnation and Contract Claims & Administration Section Heads. The Paralegal III will oversee the workload distribution among the paralegal team and will monitor deadlines, enforce case management protocols and conduct file audits for compliance. The position will assist in the training and development of other paralegals in the Condemnation and Contract Claims & Administration Sections. It will look for ways to expand the use of technology to improve efficiency and accuracy. The Paralegal III will provide advanced litigation support for complex cases, including support with briefing, filing, coordinating discovery, preparing trial materials, court support as needed, organizing exhibits, and assisting with strategic case planning. The position will also perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Senior Deputy and the Condemnation and Contract Claims & Administration Section Heads. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to teamwork; Experience as an advanced level paralegal assisting with all phases of litigation, including experience drafting discovery requests and drafting discovery responses; Proficient with technology in creating documents, submitting documents through electronic filing and conducting legal research on Lexis or Westlaw; Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and serve as an effective team lead; Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and demonstrated ability to implement and accept change; Ability to multi-task and prioritize and manage deadlines. Graduation from an appropriately accredited institution for paralegal training and three years of experience as a paralegal; or Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of substantive paralegal experience; or High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and seven years of paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
