This Opportunity:
We are seeking a Senior HVAC Engineer to join our engineering consulting team. This role is suited for a licensed professional with strong technical expertise and demonstrated project management experience. The successful candidate will lead HVAC system design for complex projects, manage project delivery, mentor staff, and serve as a key point of contact for clients.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Lead the engineering design of HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, municipal, healthcare, and industrial facilities
Serve as Project Manager on assigned projects, responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and overall project delivery
Develop project work plans, staffing plans, and fee estimates
Manage client relationships, including regular communication, meetings, and presentations
Oversee and perform load calculations, equipment sizing, system selection, and energy analysis
Direct the preparation and review of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and details
Coordinate HVAC designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and controls disciplines
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and quality expectations
Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals; provide responses during construction
Participate in construction administration, including site visits, punch walks, and system commissioning support
Support business development efforts, including proposals, client development, and project pursuits
Stay current with industry standards, codes, and emerging HVAC technologies
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
8-15+ years of HVAC engineering experience in an engineering consulting environment
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Demonstrated experience in project management, including managing scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations
Strong working knowledge of ASHRAE standards and guidelines, IMC, IECC, and applicable state/local mechanical codes
Commercial HVAC systems (VAV, hydronic systems, chilled water, boilers, heat pumps, VRF, DOAS, etc.)
Proficiency with HVAC design and analysis software, such as AutoCAD and/or Revit
Load calculation and energy modeling tools (e.g., Trace, HAP, IES, EnergyPlus)
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple concurrent projects
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
